Firsts, you would install and test this service for yourself. Use your
web Brower to open http://www.aol.com,
and click the people/chat option near the top of the page. You
should now see selections for trying the service for free. From
her, choose AOL Instant Messenger. |
| To register as a new AOL Instant
Messenger user, you must enter a screen name and password. The screen
name will also become your chat room name. After you choose your name
and password you can download and install AOL Instant Messenger. |
| As you proceed, a file download dialog
box will display, which will allow you o save the instant messenger
installation file. However, you can change the option to run it the
current location. This actions will install the application but
doesn't store the file on your hard disk. |
| As you install Instant Messenger, you'll
be asked to accewpt a license aggrement. Be sure thta you read and
accept the terms of the aggreement before continuing. You'll then be
asked to verfiy the directory where you want to install AOL Instant
Meesengr. In situations like this, its usually wise to accept the
defaults. |
| When you start running Instant
Messenger, you'll see a sign-on screen. Key in your screen name and
password, and you'll be logged on o AOL's Instant Messenger system. |
| When you're ready, click Join my Chat
Room, and you'll load the AOL chat session, which should be in
process. |
